Canon Canonet 28
Canon Canonet 28 range finder is a cheaper consumer version of a famous Canonet QL 17. The lens fixed is 40/2,8 Canon Lens.
It has fully programmed auto exposure (shutter speeds 1/30 to 1/600 in viewfinder) + manual control of f stops for flash.
Canonet 28 was marketed from 1971 to 1976. It was one of the last Heavyweight Compact Cameras. In the late Seventies materials, used for a camera begun rapidly change from metal and glass to plastics. Manufacturing quality is as good as a Japanese quality can be. No wonder that we Europeans remained an honourable second place in the competition. Expecially what it takes the price / quality relation.
Today metal is still often considered as a better an more sophisticated material. The truth is that in many many target of usage plastic and specially different kinds of composite materials has proven to be superior to any metals. Despite the wide usage of acrylics and other synthetic materials in the lens manufacturing glass is holding the lead. In Sept 1968 Canon discontinued the Canon 7s, its last traditional rangefinder camera. SLR cameras, Canonets, Cine cameras and later digital cameras, and scanners, printers and copying machines took over as its mainstream products.
